Instrument Rental

  I have worked with this company before, and I trust the quality of their instruments. Rentals can be submitted online and I visit the Somerville shop weekly and can pick up your equipment if need be.
   

Equipment

• Rosin
  
  Rosin can be purchased online or at any local music shop that rents or sell stringed instruments.
   
• Rosin-cloth
  
  A soft cloth should be kept in the student's instrument case at all times and used to wipe rosin off the string and also rosin that has fallen from the bow onto the instrument. This is important because rosin can buildup on the string, causing sound distortion. The build-up of rosin on the instrument can discolor the instrument and will eventually eat away at the varnished finish itself, which can be costly to remedy.
   
• Cello Anchor / Rockstop
  
  Most cellos come with a rubber tip on their endpin. These rubber tips are used very frequently and often lose their ability to stop the student's cello from sliding across the floor. A proper cello anchor is one of the best investments to purchase in order to stop slippage (and protects both the floor and the cello)
  
  A cello "rockstop" is not anchored onto the chair, and over time, will have similar results to the rubber tip problem. For this reason, I do not recommend this solution.
